What are you determined to accomplish? What are you determined to be? What are you determined to stand for? What are you determined to live like? What are you determined to say, do, hear, and see?
What keeps you determined to continue answering these questions in the way you do?
Determination is defined, in the English Dictionary, as having a firmness of purpose, resoluteness, the controlling or deciding of something’s nature or outcome. Determination is also like clay – can be molded into different shapes and forms and used for a variety of purposes such as building a road, building something beautiful, and a stand for a cause. Where the load leads, what the build is, or what the stand may be lies with the beholder of determination.
We may be blind in our determination or we may be clear in our determination and how we wish to answer the questions of what we wish to accomplish, to be, stand for, or anything in between. Many faiths and religions of the world have discussed determination and they are very much in line in message: determined to show a path to peace.
Quotes of the Day
Bible, Old Testament, Psalms 23:3-4
“He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.”
Bible, New Testament, Romans 15:4-5
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.”
Buddhism, Guatama Buddha
“They are not following dharma who resort to violence to achieve their purpose. But those who lead others through nonviolent means, knowing right and wrong, may be called guardians of the dharma. Those who really seek the path to Enlightenment dictate terms to their mind. Then they proceed with strong determination.”
Islam, Quran 40:55
“”Patiently, then, persevere – for the Promise of Allah is true, and ask forgiveness for your faults, and celebrate the praises of your Lord in the evening and in the morning.”
Hinduism, Swami Vivekananda (Indian Hindu Monk & Mystic)
“Every work that we do, every movement of the body, every thought that we think, leaves such an impression on the mind-stuff, and even when such impressions are not obvious on the surface, they are sufficiently strong to work beneath the surface, subconsciously. What we are every moment is determined by the sum total of these impressions on the mind… This is really what is meant by character; each man’s character is determined by the sum total of these impressions.”
Sikhism, Sri Guru Granth Sahib, pg. 1241
“I do not get tired, and I will not be stopped; this is how great my determination is…With faith in the Name, all one’s ancestors and family are saved. With faith in the Name, one’s associates are saved; enshrine it within your heart. With faith in the Name, those who hear it are saved; let your tongue delight in it. With faith in the Name, pain and hunger are dispelled; let your consciousness be attached to the Name.”
Native American: Billy Mills of the Oglala Lakota
“You have to look deeper, way below the anger, the hurt, the hate, the jealousy, the self-pity, way down deeper where the dreams lie, son. Find your dream. It’s the pursuit of the dream that heals you.”
Native American: Chief Red Cloud (Makhipiya-Luta) Oglala Lakota Chief
“I am poor and naked, but I am the chief of the nation. We do not want riches but we do want to train our children right. Riches would do us no good. We could not take them with us to the other world. We do not want riches. We want peace and love.”
How ever determined you are and what you are determined to do or be for the sake of peace, do so in peace. As lives may lock horns like rams battling for dominance, so to do the many roads of determination. While the path of peace may take longer to build, the many ways we can find peace through all faiths and religions of the world guides us to solid ground to lay our roads of determination. We can be determined to be peace together, mold the stand of peace out of clay together, and mold the paths of peace together – humbly do I pray that we do.
Be well and be safe and healthy.
