As I look outside my window, I see cop cars driving up and down the free way as the news goes on to either egg on the rioters to keep on destroying or giving clarity and definition on how this is a nation collapses. As I was watching the news, Tucker Carlson said on Fox News, ‘Truth is our last hope.”
Truth does inspire hope, but what truth are we seeking? Are we seeing the truth of a national collapse, or are we seeing the truth of a broken system? Are we searching for the truth of how to keep this system alive, or are searching for the truth of a better life beyond a broken system?
As politics wage on a war of words over who is right and who is wrong, the war over who is right and who is wrong is felt in many streets across the United States in Sorrow, Anger, and in Fear. Truth is hard to come by as the riots continue, as protests continue, and as politics on all sides struggle to hold on to power over the people, clarity is becoming harder and harder to come by. Peace is becoming harder and harder to come by. Happiness is becoming harder and harder to come by.
God/The Higher Power can provide us with clarity in even the darkest of times. No matter if you are Black or White, Yellow or Red, Christian or Jew, Muslim or Sikh, clarity can be found even in the darkest hour. A dark, lonely night will always be welcomed by the welcome of the morning sun.
Bible, New Testament, Matthew 4:16
“The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”
Bible, Old Testament, Psalms 27:1
“The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?”
Sikhism, Sri Guru Granth Sahib, pg. 765
“Your Light is in everyone; through it, You are known. Through love, You are easily met.”
Islam, Quran 5:16
“Whereby Allah guides whomever closely follows His all-blessed satisfaction in the ways of peace; and He brings them out of the darkness into the light by His permission, and he guides them to a straight path.”
Lakota Native American Prayer
Wakan Tanka, Great Mystery,
teach me how to trust
my inner knowing,
the senses of my body,
the blessings of my spirit.
Teach me to trust these things
so that I may enter my Sacred Space
and love beyond my fear,
and thus Walk in Balance
with the passing of each glorious Sun.
“Do not blindly believe what others say. See for yourself what brings contentment, clarity and peace. That is the path for you to follow.”
Baha’i – Gleanings from the Writings of Baháʼu’lláh
“Led by the light of unfailing guidance, and invested with supreme sovereignty, They are commissioned to use the inspiration of Their words, the effusions of Their infallible grace and the sanctifying breeze of Their Revelation for the cleansing of every longing heart and receptive spirit from the dross and dust of earthly cares and limitations.”
Clarity and Light
As I look out of my window, the night looks dark and lonely – as if it is yearning for the stars and the moon to return and illuminate the night sky rather than the light pollution we, as humans, are so accustomed to. When I look at the streets and see a person walking with their head down, I feel they are like the night: looking for the light. When I saw videos of rioters agitating peaceful protest, I only saw this lonely darkness growing. I hope many of those who read this are seeing this darkness growing on all sides.
As darkness is spreading like a wildfire of hate, humbly do I pray that as many of us as possible hold true to our paths of peace and see the clarity and light that God/The Higher Power is always with us. No matter what faith you belong to, no matter what religion of the world you adhere to, the message of light and clarity are the same: in our darkest times, God/The Higher Power is the light in the darkness. I find God/The Higher Power is above, around and within us, no matter what are faiths may be.
