In these times of great strife and tensions between races, people, and political parties, taking a step back and seeing God/The Higher Power is with us in times of our greatest need may aid us in keeping true to our peace. Remembering that God/The Higher Power is with us may aid us in turning our sorrow and anger into prayers for peace and compassion for one another.
All faiths and religions of the world have very similar messages on peace in our darkest time. below are some faith quotes to keep in mind:
Bible: Old Testament, Psalms 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging”
Bible: New Testament, John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Sikhism: Sri Guru Granth Sahib pg. 262
“Meditate, meditate, meditate in remembrance of Him, and find peace. Worry and anguish shall be dispelled from your body.”
“Hatred does not cease through hatred at any time. Hatred ceases through love. This is an unalterable law.”
Hopi: Ahkima Honyumptewa of the Snake Clan
“The number one way to fight any sickness or disease is through happiness, not only loving yourself but loving others. The more you feel that positive energy, the more you protect yourself from harm.”
Baha‘i: The Promise of World Peace
“[It] is possible for everyone to view the entire planet, with all its myriad diversified peoples, in one perspective. World peace is not only possible but inevitable. It is the next stage in the evolution of this planet”
There are many quotes on peace in our darkest times – from five thousand years ago until now. The message is the same: stay on your path to peace and do not let anger, hatred, or sorrow hold you back. Our paths may all be different; however, in the end, we are heading towards the same destination.
When we see that we are beyond hatred, division, and sorrow and that we are all human, then we can all see our paths to peace are not so different after all.
Be well and be safe.
